Lake Park Lutheran – website redesign

I had worked with Lake Park Lutheran church staff in the past to help with updating & training on their previous site when the web person had moved on. It had become clear that their old website template wasn’t an accurate depiction of the community at Lake Park Lutheran (For one, the main header image was a picture of half dead trees. Which quickly became a funny inside joke around the church office), and that they would need to upgrade to a custom website.

The end result allows for much more flexibility and gives a much more welcoming feel (especially more welcoming than the dead tree photo ) All areas of the church’s website are editable by the staff, and training was provided before the site launch. Also having multiple site editors/administrators has helped them to keep the site alive and up-to-date.

Milwaukee Ale House

One of my favorite local destinations, the Milwaukee Ale House, was looking to have more control of their website. With the amount of content their site needed to cover, the site really needed to have a flexible but focused structure of information. The Milwaukee Ale House website redesign was completed with a fully customized wordpress with plenty of templates to fit the content.

Fresh off a readers choice win of “best live music venue” in Milwaukee it was important to focus on the live music area of the new site. Since the Ale House provides home for lots of live music at both Ale House locations, having a way to filter events by location, but also allow users to easily see if their favorite band was playing at either location were both equally important. Each event now has it’s own detail page with photos, videos, links, etc. so that the band can easily promote the show by linking to the show page itself. By entering a band genre(s), the site also recommends bands on the schedule that are similar in sound, allowing the user to potentially find another reason to come back to the Ale House again.

Finally, being a restaurant, live music venue and micro-brewery with two locations (three if you count their newly expanded brewing/bottling location), it was important to have a functioning mobile version of the site, so visitors could easily look up directions, menu, phone number, (etc) if they were on the go.

FairWyn – Development, Construction & Real Estate website design

FairWyn was a client that just outgrew it’s old site. Their business had expanded to three separate focuses: new home community development; residential & commercial construction; and real estate of single family homes, condos and office locations.

Because each of these three areas having potentially completely different audiences, giving each focus it’s own site was the best way to make sure they would not outgrow their website anytime soon. This site was created using wordpress’ “multi-site” capabilities, so each area can be controlled by a different set of administrators, and can each have a navigation dedicated to that section. Also, since the photo gallery and contact area are common to all three sites, cross linking between the sites and the portal cut down on the site’s maintenance time.

Finally, the Real Estate section required some extra attention to display featured properties and allow for simple ways to filter the results.

Mini-site: Live at the Coloma Hotel

When the Coloma Hotel owners had the idea to have a live music series at the Hotel, I quickly realized that this could grow bigger than they expected. I brought up the idea of a “mini site” just dedicated to the live music series, and they loved it. This mini site allowed the space to add a calendar, photos, video, and even take requests from artists wanting to perform in the future. Every open date on the calendar was filled, and each week was a great success. Needless to say, the live music series did grow more than expected, and will continue to grow.

Larry Nelson campaign website design

When I was asked to help out with a re-election campaign, I had no idea what to expect. But after several meetings, I had learned so much. My role in the marketing was to “refresh” Larry’s current logo (for they would be reusing yard signs from the previous campaign) and provide a very quick turn-around wordpress powered website for the rest of the campaign volunteers to keep up-to-date.

milengo – website redesign & social media branding

Milengo is an international company that provides quality localization and translation services. Their old website was created years ago, and was no longer meeting the needs of the company. They needed a wordpress powered web solution, a fresh look as well as a unified presence throughout their social media sites. The added challenge to this web design was to make the web site multilingual, as they have customers and offices all over the world. Milengo wanted to shift the focus of their website from the details of what they do, to the benefit that the end user receives from their localization services. By highlighting the end user’s experience, this also helped bring a more personal, relatable feel to their image.

watertight web redesign

I was approached by KDS Moses Inc., a software company in wisconsin with the task to completely re-design their website. they also wanted a website run on a CMS. The solution was a customized wordpress web site, with an animated slideshow illustrating the key points of their software right on the home page. by putting their software product “front and center” on their website, they have been able to attract more customers.

everymoment 3.0 website redesign

you know a true web designer is busy when they never have time to work on their *own* websites. this has been the case for several years on my personal blog, everymoment.org. so i finally had to make myself my own client, and boy, am i a terrible client to work for! hah! this design was started several months ago, and i wasn’t completely happy with it so it sat, unfinished, until i could spend the hours tweaking it until i was satisfied. the format needed to be flexible enough to support both text/picture blog entries, as well as video podcasts. i also needed a place to aggregate all my social media output throughout the web. alas.. every moment 3.0’s design finally comes to life (and finally the client is happy. *whew* )

rachael joy

for someone involved with creating and producing video and new media content, it’s crucial to have a site to display that in a simple, yet interesting way. I met Rachael Joy through the video social networking portion of seesmic.com, and later was approached with the job of creating an online portfolio to display her work. Rachael really enjoyed the dramatic, yet simple layout of tracyapps.org. The simple layout of this site provides a great canvas to display, and not distract from, the videos that Rachael produces and/or hosts. Best wishes on your continued success, Rachael!
