on the porch is a milwaukee based band that was just starting off and came to me for a poster and cd cover layout design. in order to do these two design projects, i also put together a quick photo shoot so the band had some high quality images to use for their marketing materials. here are a few shots from that.
just some samples
i have been working at designing and creating the web for over 12 years. after over nine years of working with clients on projects of all sizes, here is a small collection of my work. to filter the entries by project type, please select a category below.
the cream city milwaukee group on flickr.com has a photowalk every month. in may 2008 the walk was through the walker’s point neighborhood here in milwaukee. here are some of my pictures from that photo walk. some pictures are more heavily manipulated with photoshop (including some HDR photography). to see more of my photos from that walk, take a look over here.
my goal as a photographer is to capture the subject and their personality in real ways. i will never be that photographer that makes you tilt your head 45 degrees to the left, while having your left hand on your chin and your other hand on your hip… no.. tilt your head more… turn this way.. look over here… no.. put your hand on your shoulder…. tilt your head more….
in 2006 i was asked to design the marketing materials for a one day conference called “expressions: sexuality & faith” which was held at the university of wisconsin- milwaukee. this postcard design was also created into handouts and posters (including a nine foot by nine foot banner that was displayed in the uwm union.) i also designed a website for the conference, did the photography for the design as well as the photography for the event.
what is “random photography” you ask? well, it’s basically pictures that i randomly found on my computer when i was looking through my work to post on here… and i thought “hey.. i really like these.” these photos were taken with my old nikon 35mm SLR camera, in various places, in various times. (aka: very random) looking at film photography makes me realize there is some sort of… character… that cannot be reproduced using digital photography. this is why i will never get rid of my old 35mm cameras.
fuller still, a Minnesota based band, needed a design for a new studio-release cd. so we set up a photo shoot to gather images to be used for press kit, website and the cd design. they were nice enough to drive down to milwaukee (a 5.5 hour drive), stand out in the cold bitter wind, sit on an old green couch with three legs, and even eat some mustard at a local chinese resturant that tasted like band-aids.
local singer-songwriter, tammy ann winn, needed some press photos and images for an upcoming cd. i worked together with a my good friend, amy, who is a professional hair dresser, and we took rolls (yea… remember 35mm cameras? this was a project before i even had a digital camera) of pictures around milwaukee. here’s a couple samples of that photo shoot
